Day 3 Wednesday 2/5
Started the day with another lecture - this time on the history of Precolumbian Mesoamerica. Then we went to and spent lots of time in the Museo de Antropologia (anthropology/archeology museum). It’s an incredible museum that houses thousands of artifacts from different archaeological sites all over Mexico. It is organized chronologically by cultures – starting with Olmecs, Toltecs, Mayas, Aztecs, etc. We didn’t have enough time to see everything – just Aztecs and Mayas. After lunch at the museum café (best food so far), we drove to a small museum to see another Diego Rivera mural Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central. Rivera painted it for the Hotel del Prado Misión in 1947. In this 15 x 45 feet mural he included most of the most important figures in the 400 year history of Mexico.
Dinner was at a posole restaurant. Not very good, but we chatted with an interesting couple – Martin and Ronna. Martin was a retired professor of medical ethics and told us about some interesting cases he was involved in, including changing the definition of death.
